MOTION ACTIVATED MEMO PAD

OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS

Description

Motion Pad is a motion activated memo pad. When it detects motion within ten feet of its sensor, it plays back a message you have recorded.

Motion Pad can alert you of movement, or it can be used to deliver a message to someone. By hanging Motion Pad in a well traveled area of your house, it serves as an excellent memo pad. Just record your message, and when someone walks past the unit, it announces your recorded message. "Honey, I went to the grocery store and will be back about 6" or "Caution, there is a ladder in the hall" are examples of useful messages you may wish to record on the unit. "Don't forget to take out the trash" or "Its your turn to wash dishes" are also useful, although possibly less popular, messages you may wish to record for playback. Or, you may wish to record a verse a day from your favorite poet for inspiration or today's special as customers walk into your place of business.

Parts List

Check the contents of the box. The following items are included:

Orientation

Remove Motion Pad from its shipping container and place it on a flat surface in front of you so that its dome-like recording button faces up and is closest to you. Immediately above the record dome control is the speaker grill. It is characterized with a pattern of small holes in the case.

Above the speaker grill are two more holes, one on the left and one on the right. These two holes are larger than the holes in the speaker grill.

The hole on the left side contains the motion detector. The one on the right houses the microphone.

The only other features of note are found on the unit's back side. There is a slide switch and a battery door with a phillips head screw holding the door in place.

Motion Pad comes with its three AA batteries already installed. See instructions later about changing batteries.

Controls

Motion Pad contains only two buttons--one to turn it on and off and one to record a new memo.

On/Off Switch

The On/Off switch is located on the back of the unit. It is a slide switch located nearly half way from top to bottom toward the left side of the unit. If you reach behind the unit with the dome record control still facing up, you can slide the switch toward the edge of the case to turn it on.

Wave your hand in front of the motion sensor to test.

Record Button

Once the device is turned on, you may press and hold the dome record button to record a new memo. To record a memo, follow these steps:

  1. Make sure the unit is on.
  2. Press and hold the record button. If the unit is playing a memo when you press the Record button, it silences the playback and begins recording. If it is not playing, it beeps once and begins recording.
  3. With the record button still depressed, record the memo. Talk into the microphone to obtain the highest quality recording. You may make recordings up to six seconds in length. If you try to continue past six seconds, the unit beeps twice and ends the recording at the six second maximum.
  4. When you finish talking, release the Record button. Motion Pad beeps twice to let you know it has registered the recording.

To test the recording, wave your hand in front of the motion detector. If the recording quality is not satisfactory, repeat the recording procedure in a quiet environment and get as close to the microphone as possible.

Batteries

To change the batteries, follow these steps:

  1. Remove the phillips head screw from the battery door.
  2. Remove the battery door.
  3. Remove and properly dispense with the spent batteries.
  4. Replace with new batteries.
  5. Replace the door.
  6. Replace the screw.
